Prevention Efforts


Substance areas

Our prevention efforts receive funding form various grants through the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Services that allow us to focus on prevention in the following substance areas:

  • Tobacco

  • Alcohol

  • Rx

  • Prescription Drugs

  • Stimulants

  • Marijuana

Through these grants, it allows us as a coalition to plan and implement acitivites in the community to prevent and treat substance use disoreders.

DRUG DIsposal EVENTS

Two drug disposal events are offered a year- one in the spring and one in the fall- for the community to have a safe way to dispose of any unused, unwanted, or expired medication (both prescription and over-the-counter medications).

Our drug take back could not be possible without our partnerships with:

  • Johnson City Police Department

  • Jonesborough Police Department

  • Washington County Sheriff's Office

  • East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy

ADDITIONAL EFFORTS

  • Education in schools and the community

  • Health fairs and other events

  • Education with medical professionals about prescribing dangers and risks to certain populations.

  • Examine county-wide tobacco policies and advocate for change

  • Tobacco-free signage at local events

  • Consultations with business owners seeking a beer permit in Johnson City
